DrillSafe and DrillWell forums in Brisbane

We joined the quarterly DrillSafe and DrillWell forums in Brisbane: well safety and well design in one afternoon. Forums like these work because companies share their own incidents and near misses, and that is where the useful lessons surface. We will keep taking part and sharing what we learn with the Australian industry.

Carbon markets workshop at the ANP, led by IETA

In early September our Geoscience Lead, Leidiane Sampaio, took part in the workshop “Carbon Markets and Decarbonization Instruments in the Energy Sector”, held at Brazil's National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) and led by IETA. As Brazil's carbon market takes shape, the role of CCS in the energy transition is becoming a practical question. Our geological site screening identifies formations suitable for permanent CO2 storage, and we have previously helped a biofuel producer deploy CO2 storage.

SPE Brazil Decommissioning Symposium (DecomBR) in Rio de Janeiro

Our Managing Partner, Gabriel Navarro, attended DecomBR, the SPE Brazil Decommissioning Symposium in Rio de Janeiro, on 26 and 27 May. The discussion kept returning to the top cost driver in subsea plug and abandonment: rig days. Brazil's baseline is still heavily rig-dependent, and operators are moving more of the scope onto lighter, lower-cost vessels.

D&A 2026 AUS in Perth

Our partner Vincent Geyl spent two days at Crown Perth for D&A 2026 AUS, Australia's largest decommissioning and abandonment summit, run by Offshore Network. More than 200 operators, regulators and service companies worked on the same question: how to retire offshore assets safely and at the right cost. Our takeaway: Australia's decommissioning wave is being scoped and contracted now, and plug and abandonment cost is decided by barriers, integrity and subsurface judgement.

Geothermie-Schweiz EventForum 2026 in Bern

In June our Geoscience Lead, Leidiane Sampaio, was in Bern for Geothermie-Schweiz's EventForum 2026, a day of project updates from Swiss deep geothermal. Switzerland is moving from studies to wells, heat first and electricity next, and the hard questions are subsurface ones: reservoir characterisation, containment and risk.

WellAware selected for Norway-Brazil innovation funding

Our WellAware project with Solution Seeker was selected for funding under the Norway-Brazil joint call for innovation projects, by the Research Council of Norway and FINEP. Together we are developing a real-time application that combines flow and well integrity monitoring, to be piloted with partner operators.

The November Conference in Rio de Janeiro

Gabriel Navarro represented Quartic at The November Conference in Rio de Janeiro, from 7 to 9 November, which brings academia and industry from Norway and Brazil together on energy challenges. Two of its themes sit at the core of our work: well abandonment and decommissioning, as regulation tightens and costs weigh on operators, and the energy transition.
